Anyone who knows me knows about my obsession with lip products. It all started in elementary school with hoarding bonne bell lip smackers (I still carry around a Jumbo watermelon flavored one in my bag, purely for instant nostalgia).
My theory is once you start wearing lip color, you begin to feel naked without it. It's what polish is to nails, it's instant femininity. A concealing powder, mascara, and a bold lip would be my three ultimate essentials.
I'm going to be reviewing and sharing my favorite beauty products, starting with lips. I love reading other beauty blogs and watching youtube product reviews before I purchase something. One of my favorites is this one: Into the Gloss. It's really helpful to scope out the best and worst products before you waste your money. Especially when you are in college and broke, womp.
Here we go:
Lip Stains
Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Endless Purple, Tarte Lip Surgence in Moody, & Maybelline Superstay 24 Color in Cinnamon Stay & Always Hot Chili
From left to right- Cinnamon stay, always hot chili, endless purple, moody
1. Sephora creme lip stain, $12- This lip stain lasts all day, but the trick is to not apply too much and to make sure it dries well before applying gloss over it. This color is one of my favorites for fall/winter. You can also layer on more if it starts to inevitably wear off a little after eating/drinking.
2. Tarte lip surgence natural lip tint, $24- What I love most about this is how good it feels gliding on. It has a minty scent and a gel like texture (similar to Clinique's chubby stick). It leaves a nice flush of color as opposed to the thick, more lip-sticky look of the sephora one. You can also choose the intensity by applying lightly or layering it on darker to achieve a flushed strawberry or a deep berry lip. What I love most about Tarte is the organic value of their products, free of parabens, sulfates, etc. I'd also recommend their cheek stains.
3. Maybelline 24 hour color, $10- I saved the best for last on this list, one of the BEST drugstore finds out there, and my everyday must have product! I always get compliments on my everyday lip color, which is a browny red, Always hot chili. I apply this in the morning and literally still have it on my night time after I've talked all day, eaten, showered, you name it. It doesn't come off until I use make up remover. It's a two step process, first lip color- wait till it dries- then apply the glossy balm. It's usually $10 at drug stores but you can often find it for cheaper at Target.
Lip balms
EOS smooth sphere in honeydew, Carmex original, Gal Collection fragranced balm in Strawberry
For those of you who are chap stick only kinda gals, here are my top picks:
1. EOS balm- What initially caught my interest was the unique rounded shape (I'm a sucker for packaging). These, like Tarte, are organic and good for your lips. It's the perfect balm to throw in your bag because it's easy to find, and I have to admit- rather addictive to apply.
2. Carmex- winter staple, goes on smooth, does the job. need not say more.
3. Gal Collection fragranced balm- Love the adorable packaging, goes on smooth like a gloss, and smells amazing! Also has spf 4
honorable mention: Co bigelow rosebud salve
